    Hi all,
I am new to TB, and know almost nothing about recording. I have a bass, and I just got an Aguilar Tone Hammer as a gift. The problem is, I have absolutely no idea how to use it. How do I connect directly into my soundcard, and begin recording? What software do I need, and is there any decent quality free recording software?
Any information is greatly appreciated, as simple as it may be!

    Thank you! -HM :bassist:

you are going to need an interface to plug it into your computer , the soundcards, unless specifically made for instrument interface, will sound terrible if you try plugging direct into the 1/8 line port. Just starting out , a fast track solo is a relatively inexpensive interface that gives good results and if you want to sing and play on separate tracks at the same time , the fast track duo is nice for a few extra bucks , and comes with pro tools express to get you started recording. Zoom makes some nice little interfaces as well

The zoom R8 is a nice little all in one that can be used as a daw interface and can be picked up relatively cheaply new and even less used

Some people say this works pretty well and it's dirt cheap, $29. Plug the 1/4" plug into the output jack of your Tonehammer and the USB part into your USB jack on your computer. That should work for starting out without too much investment.

  4. Audacity is free and a pretty good recording software to get you started for just recording your bass. I would suggest Reaper but if you're just getting into bass and recording Reaper might be overwhelming.
