newbie need help..thanks

  1. hey guys! i know this sound stupid: which is better setup, an amp that has a built in preamp i.e. SWR SM-500 or a seperate preamp and a power amp? thanks.

    All depends on your preferences. A single head involves less wiring and care, but a power amp/preamp setup can provide more power for less money (sometimes). Each has pros and cons, but I don't think of either as better or worse.

    Carvin R1000 head with a no-longer functioning cabinet (I've been running the head into my Carvin combo amp lately-it looks very funny). I'm hoping to get an Avatar cab or two to replace it for Christmas-they are fairly inexpensive and have gotten very good reviews around here.
