I see amps have effects out and in. I take it this is after the EQ and stuff? So if I had another preamp that I wanted to try and didn't want to go through the hasle of rewiring, could I put the preamp to the effects in and run the bass into that preamp?

Why I'd want to do this?
Let's say I have a commercial preamp but I decided I wanted to build a DIY preamp. I just wnat to try it to see if I like it? YEah, it'd probably be better to rewire anything. I'm just wondering though.

Just bypass the Head's Preamp by plugging your preamp into the FX Return.

most effects returns are post eq so plugging another preamp into the fx return will bypass your preamp entirely. some (like eden) have a pre eq effcts loop so the eq in the head will still operate and color your sound.
