Newbie Question

Discussion in 'Effects [BG]' started by aabassist, Jul 15, 2002.

  1. What sort of effects come with most pedals??

Like what kind of sounds can you get from using a pedal that you cant usually get, also can all pedals be used to reduce treble, bass and gain?

Effects are roughly devided into these categories

delay/time based effects - Delay, Reverb etc.

Modulation - chorus, phase, flange, pitch shift etc.

    gain - distortion, overdrive, etc.

    Envelope - wah, mu-tron, q-tron, etc.

most multi-FX will do all of those to one degree or another.

Best bet for hearing what they can do is to head down to your local music shop and ask for a demo. It's a little difficult to describe, and dead easy to demonstrate in person.

    have fun

  3. Is it possible when programming your own effects into it to make it so that it affects only the bass/treble/ or gain of the amp?

I'm not quite sure what you mean.

are you asking whether you can just program in EQ and level changes without all the weird stuff? then, yes, you can.

feel free to clarify - sorry for not fully understanding what it was that you meant.

    cheers

  5. Yeah that's pretty much what i meant,

Just in one of my bands songs i need to go from a more twangy sound to a deep bassey sound instantly, and i can't be messin around with my eq settings while on stage because there is no gap in between where i need to change

  6. Could someone post the name of a song that the bassist uses some effects??

Then yes, you can just do EQ settings with a multi FX pedal, no problem!)

    Songs with FX?

    Chili Peppers - Higher Ground,
    me - just about everything

    how's that for starters?)

  9. That Boss Dual EQ pedal is nice and has 9 memory settings, in case you wish to use it for other things (like recording projects, etc) but also consider their regular Bass EQ pedal for your specific need, as it's less than half the cost of the EQ-20.
