Newbie to TB and Bass playing

Hi All! Just joined so have to still complete profile but wanted to introduce my self. I'm 37 and in Buffalo NY. Played guitar for years but not seriously. About 3 years ago I erased everything I knew and started over trying to actually learn how to play as opposed to just belting out power chords.

A few months ago an old friend asked me to try out playing bass in a Grateful Dead cover band he had started. I did buy a bass earlier in the year but never touched it. I finally decided to give it a try and to my surprise it seems to be working so I plan to invest time/$ into it.

So I am pretty much a rookie and quite ignorant to playing bass and bass rigs except for what converts over from 6 string guitar.

So hoping I can find a friendly guide on the way and maybe be able to give back some help eventually.
