In my opinion, for $400, you won't improve dramatically over the Squier. I'd get a better amp.

+1. Your bass is one thing, your amp, quite another. Or, better still, save up some more and think about it.

Yea, Squires really aren't that bad. If you upgraded your amp, you would dramatically increase the quality of your sound, but upgrading the bass would not necessarily increase the quality of your sound that much. I think you are probably experiencing your first bout of GAS. If you are really feeling getting a new bass, then go for it. It's your money. Getting a new amp is not always as fun as getting a new bass. But the amp would definitely be the smarter buy.

    So Cal
thank u all for the replies and i appreciate ur input.
however, recently ive been having problems with my squier, i gotta talk to the guys at guitar center and if its an easy fix then ill stick with it and get a new amp

if its not and i am still under warranty(i sure hope so :S) then i would be able to go to a higher price range like $800-1000
anyways ill find out and post back thanks again for ur replies

  7. I really like the look of the ESP D4, but I've never played one, so I can't provide an educated opinion.

What is wrong with your squire? Guitar Center is not always the best place to bring an instrument for repairs. Remember, they work off commission, so if they can sell something to you, they will. Do you know if there are any luthiers in your area?

If you do decide to get a new bass in the $800 to $1000 price range, I would definitely go used. You can pick up some pretty darn nice basses for that money.
