Here's a pic of the body woods with a trial layer of finish: first, a layer of some stuff followed by a layer of some other stuff.

  13. that fingerboard is killer! reminds me of a chunk of marblewood I picked up at woodcraft last year. I'm using it for a fingerboard and it should not only look strikingly beautiful, but the wood is so dense and hard it should bring all kinds of good qualities to the bass.

    Beautiful work so far.

The build is moving along, but I haven't been so good about taking pics. I'll see what I can do tomorrow, but in the meantime...I just got a new toy:

    3602814330_63e3919340.

This guy is worth his weight in gold, having already cleanly sanded/flattened two tops and a body core. If I had the money and room I would have gotten the 22" wide version, but this is still a solid, worthwhile buy.

Side note: the body wood has changed slightly: no more veneer accent layer between the top and core, and there will be a moderately flamed maple lam on the back of the body. Pics to come...

Dude, ever have a build where one thing after another goes wrong? I've been having mad brain-farts lately and I don't know if that's the problem or if it's my approach. Lots of frustration, lots of restless sleep as my subconscious mind tries to work out solutions.

At any rate, things are coming along and I'm going to start taking the camera back out to the garage regardless of whatever else goes wrong
