I just created the basics for my next recording. It's another original composition from a friend. At this point the use will be a backing track for vocals. I may add keyboard and/or flute to this. Also thinking about egg shakers or some other percussions effect (thoughts here?). But in the meantime, I'm not sure how to get the best out of what I've recording. There are two acoustic rhythm guitar and electric rhythm a bass and a synth sound (that I've got potted down because I"m not crazy about it. Melody too forward in the mix? I know there are a few spots where I have to clean up the timing of the pocket. Even with subdivided 16ths it's still hard to be on the money. Suggestions?
The mix sounds right on to my ears. But yeah, it definitely could use some sort of percussion, even just an egg shaker like you said. Keyboard and flute would really sweeten it up.
Yeah... So I channeled my inner Mitch Ryder and threw some keyboards on there. Perhaps now a little over-produced for what it is, but I had to do it. My keyboard skills are uber-rusty, but I managed somehow to get something recorded that didn't totally suck. I posted the link again, but here it is once more for convenience. Edit: and now the version without the click track....
Not sure when the ability to edit times out... but one more thing... This recording as my other both utilized my Yamaha TRBX605 bass. It's interesting to note that the same settings that worked on my first recording (now also in video form) were not the same. On this current recording I had to be in the active mode to get the sound I wanted. Also important to note for both recordings was that I was wearing gloves on both hands. For whatever reason I just feel a consistency in touch and attack, particularly with a glove on my right hand, which actually surprises me that I like it so well on the plucking hand.
Very nice! I like the keyboard part. But (and I listened with the good speakers this time) I feel the bass part needs to come up more. It was hard to hear at times.
Tomorrow morning I’ll open it up and pump the base up a little bit and see if that helps. Thanks for the suggestion.
