Zander Zon playing Star Wars Medley. I'm guessing this is some voicing of a tenor instrument.

It looks like an e-bow. A device that, in my understanding, generates an electromagnetic field to induce vibrations in the string. It is a way to play a note with little attack and long sustain similar to how a bow can be used on a classical string instrument.

  5. interesting. the guy's definitely a prodigy...very talented. What he plays is more like an electric cello than electric bass, but it certainly sounds great.

He uses piccolo strings which enables a higher pitch tuning.
He is definitely inspired by Michael Manring.
    Nice stuff.

Definitely an e-bow, but I've never seen one used on a bass guitar before.
