I was wondering if anyone knew if nickle round wounds would screw up an ebony fretless.

I fear you have tread to the dark side my son. The is DB land.

But, to answer your question definitively, "maybe."

I played rounds on a fretless Warwick 6 and after a year, you couldn't even tell that they were ever on there. But, it was a very good piece of ebony and I don't tend to be a very aggressive slabbist.

If you have a bass with an inferior piece of ebony and/or tend to play really aggressively as in slab heavy, solo bends, etc. You may see wear on the FB more quickly.

Nickel is softer than stainless, but the round windings are still capable of eroding ebony.

No matter what you do, it'll take a while. Ebony is pretty hard wood.
