hi kids, bimp here, just wondering... for those of you in a nightclub/dance club cover band, would you share your setlist? - or - if you don't feel like typing for the next 15 minutes, how about this: (just name a few that get good response from the crowd) funky stuff (i.e. 'brick house') modern stuff (i.e. sugar ray 'when it's over') classic rock (i.e. zz top 'pearl necklace') thanx!!!
The first set or so will probably go like this tonight; - Would I Lie to You? - Eurhythmics - Little L - Jamiroquai (then they usually want another dose of that, so it goes right into...... - Main Vein - Jamiroquai - Freakshow on the Dance Floor - Bar-Kays - Dressed Up to Get Messed Up - Lil Ed and the Imperials - Super Freak - Rick James - Walk the Dinosaur - Was Not Was - Lady Marmelade - Labelle (hasn't worn thin yet ) Different crowds, different sets, though. Set 2 -------- Sledgehammer - Peter Gabriel <--- ALWAYS gets a good response, people dancing and singing along Brick House - Commodores <-- duh.. standard dancable tune. We can play this for 3 days and people would still be dancing to it. The Letter - Joe Cocker Gimmie Some Lovin' - Blues Brothers version Boogie Down - Al Jareau (althought we play it nothing like the original...) Cruisin' - Smokey Robinson <-- for the ladies... and we always get people slow dancin' to it Messin' with the Kid - Blues Brothers Spanish Moon - Little Feat Frankenstein - Edgar Winter Group <-- people go nuts for this Vehicle - Ides of March Set 3 -------- Birdland - Weather Report <--- this always gets a good response, which really surprises me In The Stone - Earth, Wind, & Fire Waitin' For The Bus - ZZ Top Jesus Just Left Chicago - ZZ Top Souled Out - Tower of Power Sultans of Swing - Dire Straits Hold On, I'm Comin' - Sam & Dave Goin' Back to Miami - Blues Brothers Jumpin' Jack - Big Bad Voodoo Daddy Hey Bartender - Blues Brothers Set 4 -------- Down to the Nightclub - Tower of Power Come On, Come Over - Jaco Pastorius <-- we played this at a gig in Miami, people were pointing at me and yelling "JACO!!!!" when we got done. Yep. 9-piece band. Guitar, keys, bass, drummer, lead-singer, 2 saxes, 2 trumpets. One of the sax players switches between bari and tenor, the other sax player switches between tenor and alto. One of the trumpet players will occasionally play flugelhorn as well. We keep adding more material to the "big ass list of songs we know". Currently, we're working on "Some Skunk Funk" by the Brecker Brothers and "Squib Cakes" & "Give Me The Proof" by Tower of Power.
Beermonkey, I'd love to see you guys play. I grew up in an era of large bands with horn sections. To me, THAT'S a band!
thanx for the replies! we're trying to build a mix of something old, something new, and alotta 'somthin' funky'! it's cool to see what other people are selling these days!!!!
Its been a long time since my band played covers but when we did these all got good responses: Another Brick In The Wall - Pink Floyd Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd Roadhouse Blues - The Doors Come Together - The Beatles Layla - Clapton unplugged Break On Through - The Doors Come As You Are - Nirvana Im especially proud of our take on Dylans 'Blowin In The Wind' It would be the first song of the set and we would get the spotlight on our singer so the rest of us couldnt be seen. He would strum his acoustic and sing the first verse and chorus, and as the audience was going 'what the...?' we would light the whole stage up and the bass, electric guitar and drums would come in, and we would play an awesome hard rock version. The audience used to go crazy!
All the songs we do are listed here www.montiscrew.com , under "songs". Disclaimor: this is my part time job, my heart and soul belong to The Nerve!. I have nothing to do with the creation or contents of this site. There would be more, and better pictures of me if I did .
Rickbass1, I would love to hear you do "Walk the Dinosaur!" That song rules! I always wanted to learn "You Can Call Me Al" -- that bass doodle around the 4:30 or 4:40 mark is awesome!
