no ground from jack to anything

  1. on my MIM jazz bass their is no ground from the output jack, should this be a problem. at this point the bass doesnt make a noise at all, I know this could one of those dumb question in that if it aint broke dont fix it. but I would just like to know

    On a traditional Jazz with a metal control plate you don't have to connect the ground wire to the output jack, as the pots carry the ground to the plate and then to the jack.

    It's not good practice, as your signal will cut out if the jack works loose (as happens in life), but it's not unusual.
