  3. It's at times like these when I love being in a family that has loves music to death. We're a musical bunch of hooligans, and my mom believes so much in musical education (which is a great thing, we all love music) that she pays for my lessons even if it's something I personally want to do, like when I dropped trumpet for bass she wasn't like "You can pay for everything yourself, since you quit trumpet lessons," she was like "Cool. Bass. Neato."

Stuff like that. So when I came on here and asked about fretless stuff and resolved to get a fretless sometime, I told her about what peeps here said and she was like "Hey, it's your money this time. Just be sure of what you want to do." (I buy my own instruments now, I'm responsible now!)

Just tell the `rents that withoutt he new bass you can spend lots more time pursuing girls and possibly impregnate one or two! :D :p

That should do the trick ;)

Hmmm, my parents aren't going to be buying me a new bass, either. (Maybe it's cause I am 27--that might have something to do with it:D )

That, and I have a job, so I can buy my own.:p

I've read different threads where people talk about their parents buying them new basses and amps. That kicks ass, but it makes me a little angry when people talk about how their parents are getting them this and that as if to brag, when there are people like me who aren't even out of high school and have to purchase their own gear. God only knows how many hours I've worked to get what I currently have. I know we're all in different situations, and I'm not trying to rant or accuse anyone of being narrowminded and start a fight. However, young new members who post only to brag about their gear suck. Just wanted to share the thoughs that popped into my head while reading the posts. Peace...

I don't know, this may not be the case, but, have any of you considered the possibility that some of these parents might not be able to afford to buy these basses? Basses arent give aways, at their cheapest they are over $100 - your folks may not be able to pull it off this Christmas- maybe you have brothers and sisters that want stuff , too. As a parent, i love seeing my daughter's smile when she gets something that makes her happy- I can't see that it wouldn't be the case with you.. hey, at least you got a computer, no? . i have an idea..

They can afford it ther're lawyers, we have lots of expensive stuff, not like luxury but we spend enough so a bass doesn't do much to the budget. so its not that. I'm not mad, just dissapointed

RHCFlea- I wasn't pointing fingers at you or anyone else on this thread. I just read my own post and got mixed feelings and wanted to clarify. I was referring to the people who are like "my parents just bought me another Eden cab today, and they got me another Warwick too. What should i get next? I already have ---------." Bad example, I know, but I think you get the idea. This thread just made me think about it.

Bummer. My parents won't be buying any new basses for me this year either, seeing as how they're both dead. Further, this is the first xmas in a long time that I haven't at least got a bass on order. But I'm gonna be enjoyin' those new Mackie SR 1530's after the 25th. I auditioned a pair a few weeks ago, and that pretty much cemented it for me. They're locked up right now, but I will free them next Tuesday. Things could be worse.
  14. Man, I wish my parents bought me crap like basses. I've payed for all of mine except for one which was a present a few years back (shuttup, it was 200 bucks ;)).

My dad has been playing bass for 30 years. And he sees no reason for me to have a new bass. So, until I can get a job (I'm 15), Im stuck with his 10 year old P-bass. :(

I have paid for every bass and every amp I've owned. I for some reason am the only one who lusts over music... it sucks.. but at least I can say. this is my bass, not yours, not your moms, its mine, no you can't touch those basses that I paid for, I paid for them, not you, give me back my son.. oh wait sorry harrison ford flashback. but seriously it is a feeling of worth when you have your own really nice bass that you paid for... but i even had to pay for my first bass.. that sucks... oh well though

Don't worry I had the same porb I wanted a new bass and a new amp and my parents wouldn't even help me out with the cost so I got a job and saved for a new bass, that was the hard part the amp is easy you can build a really good sounding 100-150 watt amp with just some good wood couple of 12 to 15 inch subbies and get someone eho knows about it to wire all of it up and it costs about 100 bucks or so

    good luck

Munji, sorry to hear about your parents mate :(

    Boxhead, good luck with that.

    now to the topic...

I'm 18, I had summer jobs in the last 4 years and in the last year of hischool I worked afternoons every day in a photo store (up to this day).

with most of my gear my folks went 50-50 with me or helped me out if I only needed a small sum to get what I want.
I'm very grateful towards them, they helped me out with my acquistions as a show of good will because I always worked hard to pursue my material goals.

I belive that when your parents will get used to the whole bass guitar idea they will be more bass-friendly.

Man, it sucks that my parents won't get me whatever I want too. Why should I have to get a job and buy my own stuff? That's what parents are for, right?

That's ok, they forget that I will be the one who picks their nursing home.
