No preamp?

Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by Biker4Him, Dec 8, 2003.

  1. Anyone NOT using a preamp. Going directly from your bass to a PA.

I can get all the tonal varieties I need outta my LG-3005's and it sounds fine run directtly into my PLX 1602. BUT..... I don't have quite enough level. With my Navigator.. all is fine, without it, I just can't quite get the volume.

Anyone have an inexpensive way to boost the signal, so I can sell the Preamp, and carry less stuff?

Use a line booster or a DI box, e.g. the Countryman DI

    I been everywhere, man...
    None. At all.
For these applications, the SansAmp BDDI is a godsend. I've even run one in front of a powered PA speaker in a pinch, and it actually sounded really good.

They're around $200 US, less for those who can haggle or have some Ebay savvy.

Any active DI should do the trick for you.

An Ebtech Line Level Shifter is a passive device, a transformer I suspect) that converts your -10 dBV (instrument level) signal to a +4 dBU line level signal.

    They're about $70 from Zzounds.com...
