no sustain

Discussion in 'Strings [BG]' started by bassist66, Apr 30, 2006.

  1. My fender active jazz bass does not "sustain" notes anymore. I tried changing the batteries, tried using a new cable, and adjusting amp settings, etc, however I think it might be the strings. About a week ago my roomate accidentally spilled a can of sprite on the bass (although I was able to clean it up). I was thinking that maybe the sprite stuck to the strings, maybe oxidized them or something. Is this the most likely cause, and do I just need to redo my strings? Hopefully it did not mess up anything electronically like the pickups.

Well does it not have any sustain when you play unamplified? Yeah, it's the strings. It probably didn't oxidize them, more like got glucose gunk under the winds.
