This may be blasphemy but: what do you guys think of bass done by means other than the bass guitar. For example, I've been a big fan of hammond b-3 organ jazz for years and many artists play the bass parts using the left hand and/or foot pedals ( ex: joey defrancesco, larry goldings etc.) I've also been very impressed w/ the funky lines played on tuba by the dirty dozen brass band on the Bonnaroo dvd. Some artists in the 70's and 80's (Rush?) augmented bass parts w/ foot pedalboards. What do you think?

Nothing wrong with a bit 'o synth bass. Or any other kind of bass. To me it's about getting the sound that suits what you're doing. Doesn't matter if it's a BG, a DB, a synth, a tuba, or just farting into a mic ;)

Whether it's Joey D, Stevie Wonder or whomever...I'd still rather hear real bass.

moley...remind me never to borrow a microphone from you. :)
