    Greetings from Jakarta, Indonesia.
Just an average 38 yr old banker who finally decided 2 months ago to finally rock some bass!
So a colleague of mine lent me a custom Soloking Bass (MS1) to begin with. Believe it is China-made, full ash body dual humbucker 4st bass. It is a cool bass; however, keep hearing this "you ought to get a proper beginner bass, dude" notion.

    Questions:
    1. Is there even such a thing? I mean, i only just started so every bass is a cool bass, i guess.
    2. If there is, anything i should look out for on a USD500 budget? tried Yamaha (RBX-270J i think, definitely loved the tones!) and a Squier Std Series J Bass (fit my small but fatty fingers pefectly).

side note: my brother already bought me a used Hartke HD50 since he was too happy seeing me punching the bass and doing something else other than work (his words.. not mine).

    Thanks and stay safe.

Welcome! I'd say look for Yamaha and Ibanez basses, they are very well made and probably more available / cheaper in your part of the world than many other brands.

As long as a bass is comfortable and sounds ok to you it is the perfect bass for you, no matter what brand or where it was made.
