Hi. Noob question. I own a C-Extension string. Can I use it without the device to get an open low C or do I need to buy that low C from a red mitchell set or the like? I suspect the latter to be correct but I'm asking the wise first. Peace and Happy Canada Day. Jason
Yes. You have to purchase the Red Mitchell C string or an equivalent if you want a low C on your bass without the extension. Another option is to purchase a light guage 5th string B string that can be tuned up a half-step without getting too taut for the rest of the set. The extension C string is basically the same as an E string, just longer for the extension.
There is a regular length low C Spiro for 3/4 scales. Probably because a low B string would need to be thicker and wouldn't sound as good as the little lighter low C string. But a lighter low B string tuned up by a halftone is a good general advice.
Good advice and as seeing as I love Spirocore strings I've ordered the low C today. Should be in friday. then when I have more cash I will get the high A or solo G#. Jason
