Hi, I'm a complete noob to bass. I already play sax so I can read music and know all the musical terms and stuff. I got bored with sax so now I'm gonna teach myself bass. Any ideas on what I should get. My budget is 300 to 400 bucks.

You actually have quite a few options in that price range. My suggestion is that you look around find a bass that:

    1. sounds good to you,
    2. feels good in your hands, and
    3. is visually appealing to you.

how much am i limited if I need to get an amp and all the other goodies too. By the way, I am probably gonna go to the Sam Ash in NYC, if you know anything specific about them that would be appreciated.

^^^ Didn't I look cool in high school?
1st of all, go used. i cant stress this enough. you can find gear it great to perfect condition for 2/3 of the price new. that will obviously allow you to get much better gear with your low budget.

as for the bass, i'd suggest a used fender mexican jazz bass.
