I have an emg mmtw in my bass now and im thinking of switching to a nordstrand bigman. can anyone give me an idea of the difference I might hear in switching to the nordstrand? I like the emg sound but I have a few basses with them already and I want to try something different thanks
I woud have allredy done it but my one concern is I have the mm in the sweet spot on my gecko and a p 40 in the neck position and theyr only about 1/2inch apart and im worried that two big magnet nordstrands might be to much pull on the strings, the emg's use pretty weak magnets so its not a big ishue but the nordys are very different
the new bass im building has the same pickup rout as this but its fretted. I was planning on using a dual coil or a big split in the neck position.
I can't comment on the Bigman vs emg mmtw but have a BigMan in the MM sweet spot and a Big Single in the neck Precision sweet spot like you're describing and there is no issue with string pull. They work fine and I really like the tone. (One would normally use a hum cancelling pickup like the Big Split or your P40 to pair with the BigMan. As an experiment, I split the BigMan coils and select either the Bigman neck or Big Single neck coil to run hum-cancelling with the bridge coil.) From my recent experience with this pickup configuration, the MM/P-bass sweet spots are ideal locations for the BigMan and a split coil neck pickup - highly recommended.
nice thread! Am putting together a Franken P and want to try a Bigman in it as soon as i can afford. Thinking maybe a 2 band active EQ (eventually) as well. Are you saying you like a Big Single in the std P position with a BigMan in the MM stingray area? appreciate ya'llz, p
