I've got a parts P-bass that I made this winter. I originally put in a Seymour duncan 1/4 lb pickup, but it might be a little aggressive for my tastes (sounds great for punk and emo, but, sadly, I'm not playing too much punk anymore!). I've heard great things about Nordstrand J-pickups...anybody heard about they're Ps? Are there any other P-pickups I should look into? I'm thinking slightly edgy, mid-rangy sound, but obviously not as aggressive or sharp as the 1/4 lbs.

I have a Nordstrand NP4 in my P-Bass and I love it's sound. If you want a more 'classic' P-Bass sound, I think you'll like the Nordstrand NP4. IMO the Duncan Antiquity's and Lindy Fralin's are also great choices for a vintage style sound.

I've never tried the Nordstrand, but the only reviews have been very positive so it's a safe bet. If you want "slightly edgy," I suspect you'd like the Lindy Fralin. It's a slightly gritty, aggressive take on vintage tone.
