Nordstrand pickups in Tobias

  1. I'm thinking about swapping some dual coil, soapbar style Nordstrand pickups into my Tobias Classic V. They have the same screw layout and shape so install should be no problem just wondered how people liked these pickups.

  2. I'm interested. I have a Tobias classic 5 as well. I'd probably change my preamp before changing pickups.

  3. I already put a new Bartolini HR5.4 preamp in it. The Bart on Bart combo is just a little too mid/twangy with the way these pickups are voiced since my bass, unfortunately, is an early Gibson model. While Mike was still in the picture, his proprietary pickup winding specs remained with him. If Mike would make me a set of the radiused Barts wound to his specs with the steps on the sides like the ones in the original Tobias' I would go that route for sure, but I don't think that's even a remote possibility.

  4. Has no one used these pickups?

  5. I've been running my bass' pre with mid on full and slight cut to bass & treble. My friend has an earlier Tobias that has corroded pickups and narrowed it down to the Nords.

  6. I run my mids full on with the switch @ 250hz and the bass and treble flat. For slap stuff I'll run the treble full on with the mids.

  7. I own an early G-Killer B 5er. How can you determine whether the PU' s are Micheals or Gibson mine has radius end Bart's ans is around 94'.

Inquiring minds wanna know .....and it's a great bass, my main player for over ten years.

  8. The serial #. Mike has the info about the first serial number produced solely by gibson on his website www.mtdbass.com. I don't think the Killer B was a model even offered by Mike originally so I'd put my money on a Gibson model.
