    It turns out (and I knew it when I bought it) that I just don't dig active electronics. But, I wanted to give it a shot...again. it's like brand new.

    In passive mode do any of the knobs act as a passive tone?

    No. But you could always add another tone knob if you wanted to. You'd just run a wire from the blend pot, to a tone knob. Then, it'd control the whole circuit. Passive or not

    You could also re wire it with a stacked pot. Volume tone. And run a mini toggle switch for active passive. If you wanted to. It'd cost about 20 bucks, and 20 minutes.
