Not playing a bass

Discussion in 'Miscellaneous [BG]' started by The Antipop, Mar 10, 2003.

  1. If you dont play a bass for a few months (while you play other ones, of course :D ) Can it affect the sound or playability?
  2. for once i disagree with you smash, i think that if you play a specific bass regularly, it will be like a shoe that fits and is comfy, but if you dont then each time you DO play it, you will have to break it in again and again, but hey ,both are fun

I am a very firm believer that the tone of a bass improves if the bass is played regularly. IME the age of bass isn't as important as the fact that it has been played regularly and frequently.

Can this phenomenon regress? I don't know about that.

The things that might impact tone if a bass sits around for a while would be subtle oxidation of the strings, coils, etc, maybe the climate changes and the impact of that on the wood. But I can't imagine just a few months making any significant difference.
