I got to play this Bass at the London Bass show, and fell in love with it. The guys from Spector UK got in contact, and now I have one, which I will be playing in my videos from now on. Tried a few techniques through my effects with it straight from the box, and it sounds and feels great. Here is a video of those techniques: Testing a new Bass! (Spectorcore Piezo) - YouTube Sounds great dry, as well!
Nice video. I have a Spectorcore Fretless and it's killer. The Piezo sounds really nice by itself. But blend the pickups just right and it's heaven.
really cool stuff! I was looking at one of these for some acoustic stuff we were going to do, but havent played one yet. Really unique sound, not the typical spector growl, but not really like anything else either. very cool. Great playing as well. I like the chording and some of the more subtle effects. Were you using the std pup, or the piezo? or both? After my next spector gets here i may have to look into one of those lol. great, more SAS! ( Spector Aquisition Syndrome lol)
Thankyou, grendle. Very kind! I lost you here though: "Were you using the std pup, or the piezo? or both?" Gimmie a shout what it means (I'm an idiot) and I'll do my best to answer
I have one, and my favorite feature is how light the thing is. Much easier on the shoulder. That being said, I'm not much for fretless, so I'll be unloading it soon I imagine.
that bass has a normal pickup ( emg hz) and also has piezo pickups in the bridge (the silver things in the bridge saddles). you can use one or the other or both. The old piezo's from years ago sounded kinda harsh but really gave you an acoustic sound. the new ones in the past few years have supposedly gotten much better sounding. I haven't played a bass with them though. Your bass sounded great to me. it wasnt harsh or clacky, but was warm wile retaining it's presence and had a unique character. just curious how you were running it
Ah ha, Gotcha! Ok, I'll be 100% honest with you here. The video you watched was literally with the Bass out of the box. The action looked set, it took a second to tune, and I messed around for a couple of minutes until I got the tone I liked. I literally then recorded the vid, using my effects. I had an opportunity to use it in a live environment on Tuesday, and again, it didn't take long until I found the tone I wanted. Lots of nice, round low, but with a tiny bit of a high edge for the chordal stuff, just as you say
Thanks man! This is going to sound cheesy, but I really enjoy it when I get to play any Bass. That's when I'm happiest. Tis a passion. But, yea, it's nicer when the Bass you are playing sounds great!
most definitely! when you enjoy the bass, that's when it seems your creativity just flows effortlessly. lol. that rhymed!
Watching the video right now. She's a beaut!! Lovin' the Slappity and the Low Round action! All your video's rock! Keep up the awesome work!
Nice video! The Spectorcore is a little known but really nice and somewhat unique bass, especially in a fretless. I got mine from Sam Ash a few years back for $370 in clearance - not sure why so cheap - maybe clearing out the old colors. Just finished upgrading it today - SGD neo humbucker with Bartolini 2 band preamp and piezo buffer. The SGD pickup is a nice upgrade from the EMG and the bart piezo pre works perfectly with the fishman bridge. Honestly my favorite part of the upgrade is having a single volume control with blend, but its great having bass and treble boost/cut too.
And yet another good & deserving player discovers the greatest basses in the world - Spectors! Cool....
