Soooo, last weekend was my wedding and I'm looking for a fuzz and an octaver these past few months. 4 days after the wedding, a friend of mine send me package. When I opened, there's JHS Muffuletta (a fuzz) and TC Electronics Sub n Up (an octaver). I only have a DOD 250 and going to get rid of it from my pedalboard (I only have a space for four pedal at my pedalboard right now). To someone that have Muffuletta, which one is the best for bass? From my limited experience, the only thing that works is just the JHS one.

I haven't had a chance to try the Muffuletta myself, but for general Big Muff Bass usage, which ever ones are based on a Green Russian, Sovtek, Black enclosure, or Civil war based muffs are typically preffered for better low end response than the Rams Head/Violet/Triangle versions.

Thank you for the reply, I'll try the other options when I can

  4. Yea the JHS mode on the Muffuletta is the best one for bass by far. That's kinda why it's on there. Oddly enough, the Russian mode is not particularly great for bass even though real Green Russians are godlike for bass.

In general when using Big Muffs on bass you want to keep the Tone down below halfway. I like it completely off or no more than 9:00. That unlocks the good low end and midrange capabilities. Some people find that Big Muffs get lost in a band mix due to not having enough midrange. I haven't found this to be the case myself, but if you do just remember the classic trick of brute forcing it into relevance with the volume knob.

I find it great with the russian, bur with no tome at all and sounds like an overdrive. The civil war is good also, but for fuzzy tone, I think the JHS is the best. I'll go all the way tone with JHS mode, but little to none with russian, and still tweaking the civil war one. The ram, pi, and triangle I found it more useful with my guitar.
