A while back I got a Fender American Elite Jazz because it had almost everything I wanted in a Jazz Bass. The only thing missing was a tort pickguard. So after I was sure the bass was a keeper I decided to make it happen.

I called Fender and all they had was black, so after some research I decided to check into Spitfire. I found Mark to be pretty friendly and it looked like he did nice work. So I sent my pickguard out and had a template made then Mark went to work. The whole process took about 3-4 weeks, but it was worth the wait! The pics are hard to capture all the detail, but I gotta say I'm really thrilled at how nice it turned out.

Thought I would share in case anyone else is looking for the same.

Nice. Out of curiousity, is there routing under the guard or is it clean so it could potentially go pickguardless?

Thanks! Unfortunately there's a visible route under the pickguard so you probably wouldnt' want to go without it. It's pretty good sized because of the active electronics...

    Good point.

  6. Whites and pastels are made for tort. Anything else on those colors looks weird to me. I'm glad to see you've come to your senses.

I put tort guards on my Oly White Deluxe Jazz basses and plan to do the same on my Oly White Elite Jazz. Very classy!

Looks beautiful, but not using "Tort Reform" as the thread title was a missed opportunity IMO.

Looks good, and I usually don't like tort. Starting to grow on me since I just put a red tort guard on a Baltic Blue rosewood fretboard P bass...

The tort literally made everything else on the bass pop. Nice choice.

  14. That is a great looking pickguard!

Can you tell us which style it was? Crazy 70's - no relic?

Thanks! I got it direct from Spitfire Pickguards. He does some really great work.

Thanks I'm really thrilled with the end result! This one was Vintage Burgundy Speckled 60's, No Relic, although it was a tough choice! I really liked the look of the Crazy 70's too.
