just got this one today and i love it. it's USA lightweight fender nitro body, with all '62 AVRI parts/pickup/hardware except for the neck, which is a late 70's Fender p bass (A neck=1.5" wide at the nut/one piece maple) with reverse wind tuning keys. the neck was previously refinned (w/nitro and re-decalled with a 50's p bass decal) and is a little fatter than most of my other jazz basses, but it feels, plays and sounds great. the guard is a '62 AV RI mint green one, but i also have a '57 anodized gold one and a '62 RI tort one on the way to see which one that i like best on it. it basically looks like a '59 RI, which was when the two tone burst finish & gold guards were being phased out for the tort and white ones. it has some honest wear & tear on it (dings dents & scratches), but i actually really prefer them that way. it weighs 7lbs 12 oz, so it's pretty much a featherweight.

here's a couple of pics of it:

yeah, the ano gold was definitely my first choice too, so i borrowed one from one of my other P's to see how it would look. i really like it, but for some reason the mint green is working for me too. it kinda reminds me of a 3TSB maple neck strat and looks really good to me that way (plus it's my wife's fave one on it ;)) to me the mint green seems to give it more depth and a bit more of a vintage 'vibe', whereas the gold ano is a bit more one-dimensional.

here's a pic of it with the gold one:

    59P-RI-03.

and another one with the mint green:

    59P-RI-04.

another gold one will be here by saturday, as well as a tort so i'm going to try the both of them as well.

Well, there, I like the mint more, but, that might be the pup cover speaking.

i agree, so i'm going to take some better pics of it with the gold one (with and without the chrome covers) once it gets here. probably try the tort one on it too, but right now i'm leaning toward the mint one.

    You lean well ;)

  17. Yeah...I can see where you're headed. The gold looks good, but I think the mint looks a wee bit better. Like you said, it's a touch more of the vintage vibe.

Either way, gold or mint, it's still one really sweet bass.

    Not actually named Phil
hmm, my first inclination is to also agree on the mint, but i'd like a better gold-ano pic (i feel like the sun/glare gets in the way of truly seeing it for what it is).

Either way, that is one (of a seemingly endless supply!) sexy bass you have on your hands.

What kinda strings are you going to set it up with? Looks like rounds on there now.

i'll take better pics when the gold guard gets here.

right now the strings are some nickel roundwounds that i had laying around. they sound great but i'm going to try some new stainless d addarios and some new ghs pressurewounds on it since nickel strings turn my fingers black (must be a chemical reaction). i would go with flats but i already have flats on three of my 6 split pickup p basses, so i think i'll just even out the herd.
