    BAM HERE IT IS!!

    31746525113_1bfec7fea4_z.jpg

now let's do the Tarantino thing and go back on how it all started.

    2010-2014

top of my GAS list has always been a Wal. I finally got a Pro IIe from a fellow TB'er. It was awesome, but I still wanted that modern tone from a Mk series Wal like Flea's BSSM and JC's tool. I finally got a Mk1 which is kind of funny since my first custom was from a craigslists ad. Throughout the years i have been always tempted to put a deposit down for a new build but with the fluctuating exchange rate and the hassles of doing a bank transfer i was reluctant in doing so.... after awhile I decided to do a custom build Sadowsky. Still the thought of getting a build done by Paul at Wal still lingered. However everytime I felt the urge to pull the trigger, a used one would pop up..... i've amassed quite the collection over the next couple years. Suddenly, i had a discussion with another TB'er @DigitalMan who recently just paid off a build and was going to fly over and pick it up. We had discussed how easy it was to pay his build using Paypal, since i had the misconceived notion that fees and exchanges would be a rip off. I then easily bought some parts and extra spares from Paul at Wal (as well as some shwag). Seeing how easy it was to pay Paul using Paypal the decision of a Wal build was becoming a no brainer. One of the Wals i had an unusual spec, purpleheart facing with a flamed sycamore core. The tone i got from it was a bit different (in a good way) from what i was accustomed too, but i wasn't sure if it was because it was a 6 string or if it was due to its flamed sycamore core oppose to its mahogany core. I then had in my mind set that i wanted a solid sycamore body. Initially, two other TB'ers/Wal brethrens and I were going to do brother builds, but due to circumstances, that did not transpire.

    February 2015
I then decided to place my deposit of £500 via Paypal to Wal. I know i wanted a blue Wal. For color samples, i sent Paul these sample pics:

    18453790829_2c3897350e_z.jpg

with this pic, i grown to like the blue and gold contrast on the body.....

    19730365198_a8f404dbcb_b.jpg

I then started to pile on a pulethera of options...matching headstock and electronic cover, gold hardware, ebony board, block inlays, luminlay side dot inlays, and remembered seeing names inscribed on headstocks and designs on inlays.....i then dig myself into a hole at about £3100 worth of options

    32563240345_81dcb42e4a.jpg

    16020643709_3c0eb2cb7f.jpg

i even did a mock up of blocks to help decide if i really wanted it on my Wal

    19107581439_1a2ab8db6c_z.jpg

couple months go by and I send another payment to Paul which is due 4 months after initial deposit, as well as providing final spec to process the neck, i.e Mk1, Mk2, or Mk3.....4, 5, or 6 string ect.....obviously more options can be added at a later date, but this spec just finalizes what model neck they will be producting.

Here is a pic of what to expect after that. They process the neck and allow it to settle the duration of the build time.

    32440759861_9e87be0aab.jpg

Then almost a year goes by after that last email teasing the neck pic.....and believe me, if you're getting a build, its so much better to forget you have one going. i then get a surprise email asking about billet choices:

it was like seeing an ultrasound!!

Then another couple months i get another email regarding the block inlay choice and inscription

    32440760351_b46fa2b5d7.jpg

yet another update fills the inbox:

    32440760171_70a95e8781.jpg

however my quoted time elapses due to the amount of options i have which is understandble.

    then bam i get this

    villanueva-4m3-syc-blue-jpg.jpg

but two week countdown begins for shipping!

    and here it is!!!

picked it up at my closest UPS hub:

After i took the case out of the box, I allowed it to acclimatize for a couple hours. Luckily i had errands to do and kids to take care of so it was easy to forget about it:

unfortunately, i did not have any new batteries in the house and i wasn't gonna pull an old one from one of my other basses....so that ended that......

Thats an incredible bass! What's the black neck finish, almost looks like a graphite neck, but I assume its a satin paint of some kind? Love the color and the pearloid blocks, very nice. An heirloom for future generations, but play it now!

It is a black polyester varnish finish. One of Wal's standard options (but usually gloss). Personally I prefer the clear lacquer finish which lets you the see the maple and mahogany laminates but the black necks do look super cool.

That is such a gorgeous bass. In fact, swap the black neck for clear varnish and the block markers for dots and you pretty much have my ideal spec Wal bass if I were ever going to order another one.

    Standard prices start at:

    Wal 4-string Mk1 - £4890
    Wal 4-string Mk2 - £5110 (5 string version optional)
    Wal 4-string Mk3 - £5110 (5 and 6 strings versions optional)

This my lightest Wal. I had it weighed on my digital bathroom scale at 8.97 lbs, but I think my scale is a bit wonkey...... gotta find my fish hook scale which is very accurate.

  19. That is one stunning bass.Congrats.:)

That's not too heavy (compared to some Wals I tried) and the prices seem ok too.
