I'm putting some new pickups in my bass and am looking for a good bass repair guy in New York City that can do it for me. Any recomendations?
Roger Sadowsky, Jimmy Coppollo or Bill Merchant. You didn't put a price on the job, so I figured... The bozos at Sam Ash/Manny's could probably do it for you, but I don't trust them. There's also a dedicated repair store in the area called Peekamoose, but they don't have the greatest turnaround time.
Thanks! Interesting- I knew Bill Merchant worked on uprights I didn't know he did porkchops too. My bass isn't high end or anything(Yamaha BBn5) but I would like to get a decent quality job. I don't trust the "bozos" at Sam Ash etc. either. I need to get it shielded an have new pots put in as well as the pickups. Any idea on how much this might cost? Are the other guys you mentioned in the phone book?
I have a feeling that Sadowsky would be a little out of my price range. I think Im looking for someone in between a Sam Ash bozo and a Sadowsky. Just a trustworthy tech with a good reputation. I'm willing to spend some money but I don't need the best in the world.
Any repair work that I can't do myself, I bring to Mike Maggio Jr. Maggio Music in Bklyn NY. The store has been there for 40+ years. Not to mention that I work there part time. He's been doing repairs on my basses since I started playing back in '91. 718-259-4468
