obp-1 question

My search turned up a thread or two, and from these I understand that since the controls are boost only tone should be pretty close to the natural bass's with both controls set flat. For example: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=184694&highlight=obp-1+flat

My question relates to gain. I have an OBP-1 in a bass with passive pickups. Am I correct in assuming then, with the controls set flat, the it's the same as a passive bass? Or, is the output increased (gain) without any tone change or coloration?

The output of the bass with the preamp set flat is slightly louder than is the preamp is bypasses. IMO, there is no coloration.

So there is a bit of gain over the output of the passive p'ups, but little or no coloration.

Thank you for taking time to reply. I appreciate your view on this.
