Hi all I've searched the forums for quite a while and I can't seem to find the answer I'm looking for so here I am, yet again adding to the pile of pre-amp wiring questions... Sorry! Here's my query: My current bass build has Aguilar 4 string PJ passive pickups. I'm going to install the Aguilar OBP-2 preamp too so I'll have the option to run it active or passive with a DPDT on-on switch. I'd like to have a concentric pot to control the bass/treble to save some space as I'm not too keen on having a cluttered setup. The Aguilar diagram says it needs a "Dual 50k Lin." concentric knob - Does this mean that the whole stack is 100k, or that they both add up to 50k? Also, when running passive will I be able to change the tone using these knobs or will I have to install a passive tone knob too? I've attached my wiring diagram I've made, bit awful but you get the jist! {} Hopefully I've explained myself well without rambling on! Thanks for your help!
This. Unless the pot goes through the body, in which case, you probably need one with a longer threaded section. Potentiometers - 50k, Linear, Dual | Antique Electronic Supply
I’m not familiar with the Aguilar pre’s. They could have a feature to let that work but, as far as I know, you’ll need a separate passive tone control that is, presumably, only in the passive part of the circuit. Also, if the DPDT switch in the bottom right is the preamp bypass I think it’s drawn wrong but, again, Aggies could have something I don’t know about.
Thanks for the help! I've tried to scrounge together my wiring from Aguilar's here - http://www.aguilaramp.com/wp-content/uploads/wiring-diagram-obp-2-v2.pdf
Ok. I was mistaken. Now that I looked closer at the diagram, the switch, as on their website, is right. I was stuck in the way I would wire the switch and misinterpreted their diagram at first.
