Just got the Octron 4 U email from Dave Fox. I've only noticed 1 used one pop up on ebay and that was like a month ago. So I'm forking over the cash for a new one. Anybody tried it yet? I'm already scared that it's going to be so cool I'll want 2. I'll try to post some sort of review when it arrives...
It's been so long I don't even remember when I 'signed up'. Initially he thought he'd be all caught up around November but I guess it's taking a lot longer. Mine should ship on Thursday - can't wait.
got it Saturday - that was quick! I didn't have my 'big rig' to test it with but my initials findings with an active bass (and even passive) were that the upper octave was too 'gainy' if that makes sense. It gets pretty fuzzy cranking only the octave up. The octave down sounded great - tracking started to get weird around G on the E string if I remember correctly. I'll have to get in there and tweak the internal trim pots - there are trim pots inside for gain, octave up tone, and octave down tone. Hopefully I'll have time to do some clips before I leave the country next week.
how much did you pay for one? are they that good? i looked at the website and the flangers look awesome, and anologueman likes them.
pacoj - price is $199 on the site. OK, much happier now. I spent a good hour tweaking the trim pots and twiddlin' knobs - there are a whole lot of sounds to be had in that little thing. I really didn't know what I wanted to do with this pedal..you can get a really clean or dirty octave up that is either harsh or smooth - or a nice round octave down with or without direct.... but I found a 'setting' that does a Very Good approximation of the old Mutron octave w/ the Ringer on. I have the octave down all the way up, the direct almost half way and the upper octave Just below the direct. I'm a happy camper. He's doing a Hot Silicon Fuzz next.
I got mine this week and overall I'm pretty happy with it. Tracks as well as you would expect for an anaolg octave pedal. The octave up isn't so much a harmonized octave as it is an octavia. You can turn the gain trip pot down but there is still a small amount of gain. Like Muzique Fann, I wasn't sure how I was going to use this. I was kind of hoping for a clean octave up harmony, but with the gain, it opens up a whole lot of possibilities. At higher gain, this could definitely replace my BOF. Unfortunately, to turn the gain down to a very slight buzz, you have to open it up and adjust the trim pot. With the Octave Up level all way down, this is a very good Octave down harmony pedal. With the tone control, you can make the harmonized ocatve punchy and sharp to very fat and round. Great octave down tone. I will likely send my Octabass packing. It would have been nice to have added the trim pot controls to outside for more convenient adjustment, but overall I like it. Definitely a keeper.
