Is the ODB-3 setting on the ME50-B modeled or is it the actual circuit from the ODB-3? 'm thinking about getting and ODB-3 and was thinking mabye the ME50-B might be a better value. Is the ME50-B all digital or are there some analog effects hiding inside?
It's all digital. I can see where you'd think it had an ODB-3 or other analog goodies 'hiding inside' as the user interface if very analogish: all knobs with no menus. The unit converts to digital and back to anlaog for the output. Before you by an ME-50b, ask yourself if you are going to use the other effects ? If you just want overdrive, a seperate pedal is the way to go. I use many different EQ, compressor, distortion, and delay settings that I have pre-programmed into my ME-50b (which is very easy to do). With the touch of a footwitch, I can invoke multiple effects at once. This is the real value of the ME-50b for me.
I think Johnvice has a good point. The ME- 50B might be 3 times the price of the ODB-3 put I believe it has 10 times more goodies. Tuner, EQ, Compression, loads of FXs, Volume pedal, Wah, Programability, Headphone jack, CD Input jack, etc.... But it's only a value if you will use some or all of this stuff. On a side note (I'm going to put up a separate post but I just saw this thread and thought I'd ask) does anyone else hit two of the ME-50B pedals on stage instead of the one therefore going into either Tuner mode or Program mode with disastrous results?
My guess is because Boss makes both of them and some people actually like the ODB-3. Digitech also models it on the X-Series Bass Driver.
