Odd Fender color/pickguard configurations?

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by jenderfazz, Oct 2, 2003.

  1. For example, a sunburst bass with a silver pearloid pickguard. I'd like to see that. Anyone have pics of odd pickguard configs (generally ones that don't come standard on that particular color). It would be interesting to see the mods people have made pickguard wise.

One that always strikes me as odd is lake placid blue with a tortoise shell pickguard. Kinda gives me the willies! :p

I agree. It's kinda like wearing brown shoes with a blue suit :meh: .

I think a tortoise shell pickguard would look equally awful with Inca Silver...

Mine has a silver pearloid pickguard on a midnight blue finish. I don't know if that's weird enough. :/

  6. I love tort on white or black or LPB...

My Benavente fretless 51 on order is gonna be transparent medium blue & tort

My Strat is Black & Purple Moto. I think it's a killer look.

Here's my midnight wine MIM Fretless Jazz with a tortoise pickguard. Not particularly weird, but different.

I must be too traditional. I think tort looks great on black, white, sunburst, and natural. It is a crime against nature to put it on anything else!

  10. well, the Fashion Police have been tracking one step behind most my life... so, it just might be a crime :bassist:

I really want a wine red 4001 ric and put an aftermarket yellow pickguard on it. Also, any jazz with an aftermarket pink or yellow would be awesome as well. But i'm a weirdo.

My jazz is off white with a forest green pearloid pickguard - absolutely couldn't stand the stock config (off white bass color with a bright white pickguard).

  13. Personally I think all of these are really nice! I'm gonna try to find some weird combos and post em. Keep posting!

I've got a Fender AmStd P-bass in SUNBURST with
a BLACK PEARL pickguard (rosewood board)..
Strangely attractive to me but never seen another in this configuration.

  15. Sorry to interrupt with a guitar pic, but this is an odd combination. It's not bad though.

The binding and inlay really compliment the colour -- I love it!

Did somebody say, "How necro can a necro thread get?"

A recent pickguard change almost led me to start a thread on this very subject, but, search is your friend, oar something. :D
Have an odd pickguard/color combo (Fender or not)? Throw it in here!

    Why, here's one now! 20210228_114449.jpg
