Apologies if this is not the right forum!
I am making a CNC machined thumb rest for the
Ric 4001 4003 that requires no holes or mods
to the bass. If you look on Ebay search under
Rickenbacker Thumb you will see it.

I got the idea after seeing so many Rics with a wear
spot in the finish at the corner of the guard, from people
digging in their thumbs there. and all the Rics with the
bridge pickup cover removed which just looks doggy to me.
My 2006 4003 was never as easy to play as I would have
liked (being a finger player) and I was loathe to drill holes
into it to add a Fender style rest. I made to original out of
acrylic scrap with a dremel and a LOT of filing and sanding.

Of course if you play your Ric with a pick this is all a big yawn to you :bassist:

Cool. I have a Tube Ampology Bezel with the thumbrest and its awesome, but its more for the bridge pickup (which is great for me but there are times I want to play over the neck pickup ) This is a good solution.
