David King Custom A-4 “B-Bass” (tuned B,E,A,D). Some folks mistakenly refer to this shape as a “travel bass” but NOTHING has been sacrificed in the way of the tone or playability on this bass. It’s a powerful, full sounding bass, especially the “B” string which sounds as strong as any 5 string I’ve ever owned. It was built as a “B-Bass”. People who ask me to describe the tone.......... “like a very good US Spector or Steinberger XL-2“. Obviously a bass like this isn’t for everyone! Here are a few of the details.

    * 34“ Scale Neck w/1.5“ Nut Width, 19mm. string width (Std. "J").
    * 6.4lb. total weight!
    * Solid Zebrano Body Wings.
    * Ebony Rails and Center Neck Stringer, Balance of Neck Zebrano & Santos Mahogany.
    * Wenge Fingerboard. *Very stable, no changes to humidity or temperature conditions.
    * Full Length Ebony Body Thumb-Rest, a King specialty.
    * EMG “J” Set w/9v. Battery in “Magic Box” (tool-less) battery compartment.
    * ABM Individual Monorail Brass Bridges (4), plated black.
    * Brass Custom Machined String Restrainer, does NOT require headless strings.
    * “King” Zebrano Control Knobs (3).
    * Passive Controls: Volume, Blend & Treble Roll-Off Controls.
    * Tru-Oil Finish over Light Amber Shellac Sealer.
    * Locking “Himmaugh" ATA Flightcase (like new). www.himmaugh.com *None Better!
    * All original keys & adjustment tools.

    Bass is in MINT CONDITION!!!! If you were to order this bass from David King today you would pay $3,435.00 (w/case, plus shipping). If you’re looking for a unique, impeccably built, hand-crafted bass that sounds incredible and is a true PLEASURE to play..... this is one!

    This looks a lot like the bass Mike Gordon plays for travel situations. I've heard it live...BEAST.

    Here he is playing it -

    Nice! What's the string spacing at the bridge on this one?

    It's Davids standard 4 string spacing:
    4-string: 0.75 in (19mm)

  7. Great guy with great ideas and skills. I met him a couple of years ago and played some of his instruments. Impeccable, great sounding and innovative. It is really a shame his work doesn't get a little more love around here!

    Only for a headless, fretless 4. Sorry to be so specific but that's what I really need.

    It uses Dunlop Strap Locks (included), one is inlaid into the front end of the upper horn and the other (not inlaid) is located just under the tuners on the rear end of the bass (visible in the pics). The string gauges are .125, .100, .80 and .60.
