Speaking of Icons, here's some original audio from one of my bands. My bass growls on this one, and while the recording is just a rough basement type from our drummer's phone, the sound is nice and grindy. Also, vocals will follow in time.

That sounds really cool. I'm getting kind of a Karnivool vibe in some sections. Are you guys fans?

Thanks, man, and honestly, I've never heard of that band. The guitarist and drummer may have, though. Our drummer is a Tool NUT, but overall, we're influenced by other bands like King's X, Porcupine Tree, a little Dream Theater, AIC, Pantera, Alter Bridge, Days of the New, Candlebox, and so on.

Added a little but unique option...pink color for the diamond inlays. I've always loved the look of casino game tables, as well as, well...British race cars (hence British Racing Green).

This was a fun one to do, even if some stuff is a little sloppy towards the end (again, rough recording):

Anybody use the sweep for the mids? I've come to realize after owning a Kiesel for more than two years, I've never touched it. The only exception is at home checking it out, but it always stays on the middle detent.

    I think I would rather have a low-mid and a high-mid.

I did use the passive switch for the first time at last night's rehearsal. My sound was being slightly distorted and sounding awful through the sound system. Went home and came back with my Ampeg combo, and that didn't change it.

Realized it might be the battery, so I switched the Vanquish into passive mode, and ala. No spare batteries, but that true passive switch is great.

The mid sweep can be a bit daunting. But if you spend half an hour playing with it and figuring out how it works, you can effectively figure out your own quick settings for low/high mid, etc.

The passive switch is great. I wouldn't have an active bass without one.

  9. +1 to the A/P switch, quite a handy thing to have. Like @Toptube, it's pretty much a requirement on my active basses.

@74hc - The mid sweep can be nice once you get used to it, and it's nice to have. But I do have an Icon that I put a Pope preamp in with low/high mids and that's very nice too. I like them both, but I'd say that the setup with low/high mids is maybe a little quicker for dialing in sounds, but other than that, they both work great... I know it's not much help, but probably comes down to personal preference.

The gloss neck isn’t my first choice but I really like it. The lack of stainless steel frets is probably my only issue. I might change them out one day. But for now, she just needs a really good cleaning and some new strings. I’ve been hunting out one of these for ages but their prices keep going through the roof. Luckily I got a great deal on her....

Got bored, and priced out a Vanquish 5, if my custom Icon doesn't please me. :D

  12. It’s nice to see the site is back up!

Oops, I did it again.... I bought another bass. I didn’t mean to, but it was specked out very much how I’d want it, and I could use a 6 string backup, and I got a good deal (not as good as my other IC6, but certainly fair, and at least half of what it would have cost new). Just waiting for its’ arrival. Not the biggest fan of purple but that didn’t really matter to me....

That rosewood board is sweet...almost looks like purpleheart. Best part is that, unlike purpleheart, it won't fade!

  15. Yeah, I love rosewood fretboards. I also like the 5 piece walnut/maple neck, tung oiled neck, and ss frets. Not thrilled about the diamond inlays (at least they’re abalone). I already have two 5 string Icons, but only the one 6.... so I have a backup. I think I’ll use this one for all my upcoming gigs this summer.

I’m also thinking about tuning this one BEADGB, instead of a high C. I’ve been playing guitar as long as bass and that C just messes up my muscle memory. If I tuned it to a B, like my guitars, things will feel more second nature.... I reserve the right to go back to a C though!

    Radiation Green, right?

Funny, I got the itch to spec out a JB yesterday. This, instead of a Vanquish, will get ordered if my incoming Icon doesn't please me.

Please help me identify this bass. I've had it for 15+ years. I think it's a 90's model.
I installed as Audere preamp and the Delano pickups. It previously had active EMGs that sounded mediocre.
Also the preamp was wired straight to the jack with no low, mid or high.
I've had it a long time and have no plans to get rid of it. And the new pickups and preamp sound awesome!
