Is One 800 a good amp?

Can it be considered a quiet amp?
I read: fan even if it is active doesn't start until it is not required by the internal temperature, also that it is possible to deactivate fan when you need to study. Does these fetures work well?

Also I read: tuner is so so.. and the lightz are too much louder

Tried them both... didn't notice any hearable difference if I'm honest. Went for the AT212 since it's lighter and I did need a powerful cab (900w) with 4 ohm.

Question about the 800... can the DI be used without a load on the amp? In other words, can I plug right into the soundboard without a speaker connected and use it simply as a preamp?

Hello,

my Tecamp Puma head, first ever version (powersoft module) is showing some signes of age so that I'm not totaly confident in it for the big gigs I sometime play.

I know that some of the GR club members know both brand. So do you feel that the GR 800 would be in the same ball park tonaly speaking.

That Tecamp could be described as pillowy lows, very cristal clear high ends, quite soft in the mids. It pairs extremely well with the Tecamp S212 classic I also have so I'm looking for a head wit the same tonal signature.

I'm no expert, but the sound is clean, it doesn't seem to add any colour. I play in a community big band and despite the size, it holds it own against the horn section while being portable with my old back - so yes, it does what I need. I particularly like that I can pick it up with just a pinkie

Got my new AT 212 Today!

Admittedly, I haven't gigged it yet, however, at some serious levels here in my home, it's pretty bad-ass. Very even sounding cab. A bit less compressed than my PJB C8 (which is amazing in the mix). Just a bit more open I'd say. No rattles or anything weird. Just solid, weightly bass tone. Horn sounds great too with good highs w/o sounding brittle or thin.

The thing is just crazy when you pick it up. You expect so much more weight at heft that you almost hit yourself in the face with it.

You literally can carry it with one hand. Just insane! So far, far good (I mean GREAT)! More later!

Any more thoughts on the GR vs PJB? I have 2xC4 cabs which should be close to your C8 in sound (though 4ohm combined). I'm considering either the 210 or 212 tall cabs.

P.S. I do have a GRE mini driving the two C4s and it sounds great. I replaced a TC BAM200 and a BQ500 with it and it is so much better sounding. Speakers really came alive with it. Still giving out numbers?

So, really starting to consider trading/selling my current rigs which consist of a Genzler BA15-3 and BA210-3 and two PJB C4s (one lite, one std, see pic above). I use the C4s primarily indoors in my home studio for practice and very low volume stuff. I use the Genzler cabs either separately or together for larger shows.

I'm thinking of getting two of the AT212 slim cabs and keeping one in the home studio to replace the PJB C4s. The second one would be used for outdoor/larger indoor shows.

Thoughts? Any experiences to share? The primary draw for me is the weight and portability as I'm in my 60s now but still plenty fit.

Would you go with two 8Ω cabs? My Genzler 800 head (which I plan to keep) can do 2.67 but Jeff says that it can actually handle a 2Ω load as well.

Any other combinations to consider? The kind of music varies wildly from a synagogue gig to loud hard rock and just about everything in between. I like a neutral/modern tone with deep resonant bass but articulation so that notes can be heard as well as felt.

I use a At 210 for most gigs, its pretty loud and have a At112 to add to that for louder gigs, I find that enough with Mesa d800. If I was starting fresh again, I might get 2 of the new 210v cabs.
