Yeesh, that's a long title! I'd like to start a thread and club dedicated to all things Squier VM Jaguar Special...discussion, questions, pictures, sound samples, etc. To clarify, this is the long-scale version with either P J pickups or the single humbucker in the bridge, and the active bass-boost circuit in both four and five-string configurations. The club for all short-scale Squier Jaguars can be found here. Post a picture of your bass to receive your club number: I've owned my SVMJS since February 2014 when I started playing bass. It's my first and only bass and I think it's great. I love the body style, the neck, and the tonal variety from the P J pickups and bass boost circuit. I found mine on Guitar Center's used website and couldn't pass it up. sleepy
I bought one not long ago as in the pic below. Not a pic I took as my camera phone is screwed up. If you don't want to give me a number, that's fine. I also have a Ray34. I have two residences so will keep one in each location.
Hi bullie, Welcome to the club! I'll give you a number (#2) on good faith that you'll post a pic of your actual bass when you get a chance. What made you choose the Jaguar? sleepy
Well I'm a beginner too and to be honest, I just liked the look of it and it seemed comfortable enough to play. Its plenty good to learn on. I'm happy with the purchase.
Now that's not true...maybe you're just not Classic Vibe Jaguar special. But hey, that problem can be easily remedied with a trip to your local bass shop or the Talkbass classifieds! Yep, pretty much the same story here. I did a little research on other potential basses but then just kind of stumbled upon the Jag Special and went, whoooaaa! sleepy
I am definately not Classic Vibe Jaguar Special, I am a lot closer to Vintage Modified Jaguar Special, but only standard... However, I am more than happy with it, even though I am not special
Haha, apparently I'm the one that's 'special'. I of course meant Vintage Modified but somehow typed Classic Vibe. That's still a sexy beast you have there! Oy. It's been a day... sleepy
I got one, I tried one about a year ago, but had no use for the boost. Then I realized how it could work for me (I basically like a passive tone, but I use the boost to crank it up for some things). It'll never be a main player for me, but I sure do like it!
Hi dabbler, Main player or not, welcome to the club! You're number three and the first owner of a red Jaguar. For what types of things do you find yourself using the boost? sleepy
Just scored this off of Craigslist for $120. Still had the plastic peel on the guard, it's like new. I replaced the chrome pickguard screws and took a Sharpie to the white layer. I'm impressed. The B is solid, the neck is awesome, weight is tolerable, fit and finish are very good. The J pup is fine, but the P is weird. The D-G and the B-A splits sound like two different pups, the treble side is much brighter. Haven't made up my mind on the bass boost (there should be a bypass switch) but seems like this would be a great bass to add an active PJ set to.
Hello bass_case, you're #5, which is pretty fitting since you're the first five-stringer! I'm digging that all-black pickguard, definitely gives the bass a different feel. I'd also be interested to hear about the bypass switch for the bass boost if you decide to give it a shot. Welcome to the club! sleepy
First post, first bass. 46, ex-tuba player in HS and uni. Never played a note in anger on a fretted instrument. when my mom (she's 70) decided she wanted to learn guitar this year, I took that as a challenge. Neighbor at the Steve hoffman Music Forums sent me, so here I am.
