And liked it. what's the world coming to? I've never been impressed with Peavey bass amps but went amp shopping today and the store I went to only had Peavey and Fender. The Fenders were all smaller combo amps so I plugged into a Peavey 300 watt SS head callel a Nitrobass (I think) and it sounded great. My favorite feature was the contour control. It wasn't a button that you push in or out but a knob like a volume knob. turn it all the way clockwise and it sounded like a GK. Turn it all the way counter clockwise and it had lots of midrange growl, or blend between the two. I'm looking for a head with 2 power amps in it or I would have bought the thing on the spot. that is all I wanted to say. I guess sometimes you just don't know until you try it.
There's often perfectly serviceable gear to be found for those willing to do a little "bottom feeding." I mean that sincerely. Check out Crate, while you're at it. If it sounds good to you and you can save some bucks, why not?
Hmm... I don't think he's speaking in terms of "saving a few bucks." More speaking in terms of he overall liked the amps. To the poster, I suggest checking out the Peavey Firebass II 700, I'm not sure if the Nitrobass has it, but the Firebass has a crossover built in, it's kind of a pain that you have to add the power amp. Although, it's a fairly good plan. I, also, really dig the contour knob. I usually keep it off for a super-clean sound. However, with it fully on, you almost get a tube-like sound from it. It doesn't sound fake at all, either. Good luck on your amp search.
There's nothin wrong with that. Hey, i normally hate Peavey stuff, but that Bam 210 combo, wow, i could rant about that one.
I used to run my 400RB into a 4ohm Peavey 210TX. I loved it! To my ears, it outperformed the Hartke, GK, and ADA(yeah, this WAS awhile ago!) The only thing better was the Eden cab. But, for a couple hundred more, I could have(and should have) bought two Peavey 210TX's! Good luck and remember: just use your ears and have fun! T. Alan
