I know. And something about it reminds me of a booger! BUT, I really like to find how it plays.

I'm sure it's an instrument of stunning quality - but I just don't like that shape. Must be impossible to play sitting down. IMO it would look much better with normal bouts and upper horn.

Ron and company do some awesome work. Some of the results aren't always practical though. I used to have a 5 string just like the one in the pic (looks like the extra wide string spacing), but without the two side cutouts. The very first day I got it, it fell about two feet (in a padded gig bag) and broke one of the horns of the bottom omega cut. I took it to a highly respected local luthier (Dan Carruthers) who did a beautiful job fixing it. The other noteworthy thing about that bass is, it's the heaviest bass I've ever owned. It would have been impossible to play a whole gig with that thing (you'd end up stoop shouldered at the end of the night). Definitely studio only. But boy did it excel in the studio. No other bass I've ever heard developed a sound like that. One of these days when I have ten grand to spare I'll get another one :)

They aren't exactly "practical", but they are pretty cool. This is my John Paul Jones 4 string:
