I have a few questions regarding ohms.

I have a 4 ohm 300 watt amp head, and I need a cabinet. I know for sure i'm going to get an Avatar 2x12 cabinet, but I don't know wether to get it in 4 or 8 ohms. I might want to get a 2x10 extension cabinet, but then again I might not. I'd like to try to keep my options open, but I've heard that 8 ohms doesn't make as much noise as 4. Is this true? What do you think I should do?

  3. I'd look at the playing situation and if the 2x12 has enough oomph gofor the 4 ohm version. Ask around to see if you can borrow one, or even go rent one for a weekend. You'll get a good variety of opinions here, but only you know the situation and in the end you'll need to make the decision.

Actually neither one will make noise unless the speaker is broken. ;) But yes the 4 ohm version will be slightly louder given the same amount of power, and the cabs have the same efficiency.

Check out this for some more information on ohms. It's loosely based on reality.
