Ok, I know %^* about pickups....

Ok, I admit I know very little about various pickups. I know what active, passive, and humbucker mean, but the differences between brands and styles has me a bit confused. If you don't mind, post some links so I can research this matter. I have read and searched a good bit here on TB and it has helped, but I am looking for more explanation of the type of sounds various makes and styles of pickups have. Thanks!

 

Thanks guys, I shall enjoy reading over these today. If any of you have others, please post them for me. I am trying to avoid asking the dreaded newbie questions like "What is the best pickup....." I know those are annoying and I prefer to do some research first.
