most of the time, we play in E, which for me. its fine. some songs we play in drop d(dadg) and the d is so sloppy and loose but it sounds heavy.

so offcourse, everyone now wants to go to D tuning (dgcf) so i tuned down and everything was buzzing and way loose.

am i going to have to get a set up just to see if it is going to work?

Definately get it checked out, I've been able to tune down to drop C no problem on each bass I've owned running 45-105 strings
  3. This would be a good time to learn how to do a setup, so you can get the drop tuning going and then go back if you guys don't stick with it.
