A great performance is a great performance, period!

I won't compare them to the original, as I am not as familiar with ToP as many of you, but I enjoyed them enough to see them live if I could.

Just curious, how much K-pop have you actually heard? Most people who dislike K-pop have never even scratched its surface and only knows the big viral hits, and they tend to be the ones that pleases the lowest common denominator and are in no way representative of all of Korean music.

Here's a playlist I just put together, full of Korean pop/indie songs that span in many different styles, including influences from metal, jazz, funk, R&B, soul, hip-hop, classical, etc.


It's likely you have never heard any of those songs, and they showcase a side of K-pop that most people never have heard of, because they think k-pop is just BTS and BlackPink and Psy's "Gangnam Style." Give them a try--maybe you'll find something you like, or even can respect and admire the artistry and musicianship displayed in them.

IMO, K-pop currently has objectively on average the most sophisticated and advanced musicality among all the mainstream pop music around the world, because the people behind the movement incorporate a lot of complex harmonic and melodic language that's very uncommon in typical pop music you'd hear elsewhere (with Japan being one of the exceptions). Western mainstream pop used to have that level of musicality, but with hip-hop having dominated and influenced western mainstream pop, the trend in songwriting has become much more stripped down and simplistic.

Nice, but I couldn't get all the way through it; I had to go watch ToP do it. Such a great song.

Then I got side-tracked and eventually ended up on Scott's Bass Lesson tutorial on the song,
then I got frustrated,
threw my bass on the ground,
swore at nobody in particular
Then quit the bass forever.

forever lasted about 23 seconds. I picked it back up, laughed at myself and went on to something else..

Talented players. For me it lacks mojo and that grease needed for this style of music. Calculated and thought based rather than feel. Too perfect basically. Has the feel of a homework project for kids majoring in music. Lol...And as soon as the slappin and poppin(in any form) come into the fold I'm usually out. Just never been a fan. Solid players though with a much better and more schooled mastery of their instruments then I'll ever have.

(This is not a cut or jab on any particular style or ones approach to playing. Just a personal opinion that comes down to individual tastes and preferences)
