Just as a bit of positive reinforcement for the subject of this thread, I've spent the past few days doing transcriptions of some of my favorite jazz solos (Fred Hersch, Kenny Kirkland, Kenny Baron, Branford Marsalis, etc.) to be used as transcription/analysis projects for a jazz theory class I'll be teaching this semester. Transcription and analysis is and EXTREMELY important aspect of learning the jazz language (IMHO, of course), whether it be tunes, solos, or basslines. Keep at it!
