I have spent a lot of time and nerves to find a perfect overdrive for my needs. As i mostly play with pick and i use clean/dirty tones - this one fits me really nice. Sure, it can do the Lemmy Signature Tone. But it can do a lot more! It begins from almost clean with a strong attack and some sparklings to the wall of dirt. It is not noisy and its gain control (FASTER) is a really useful knob. I just set its tone and volume knobs as i like and choose from clean to dirt when i need it. This pedal is incredible with its dynamic response: even at the highest gain setting it still reacts to stronger/softer attack of a pick - more or less drive is available. So, you just have to try it. I am still in love with my Darkglass X7 - but it is much more comp ressed, coz this is its natural tone.
Afraid I've pretty much got to get one just for the looks... Faster, harder, louder sounds simple enough for me, too What color are the two leds in the Ö?
Could not agree more - I had one and gave to a buddy, had to wait 90 days to get another... Holding onto this one... My guitar player wanted to try out on his rig, sounded completely awful (too my ears). Very reedy through his setup. Guess it just needs big iron to bring the thunder.
Yeah, I got nothin' on that. And, THAT is amazing. Question? What's the "Funk" pedal directly above the Strymon DIG?
Do you use the Motorbass and the X Ultra for different flavors of high gain or are you stacking them and running the Motorbass as an OD into the X Ultra?
I use Okko with delays for that rhythmic kind of tone, a bit dirt. Darkglass X Ultra is mainly for a clean/compressed tones. I do not stack them yet.
Forgot this was a thing. May need to find one of these pedals. Any info on what it would sound through GK RB Series heads? What is your current rig with this pedal?
I've run it through an 800 and 400RB. Sounds very good with either. Typically using a 2x10 with a 1x15. But also sounds as good with 2 Ampeg Mini SVT 2x10 cabs. IMHO, I think it sounds better with an Orange or Ampeg tube head.
Which head is your preference overall? As much respect as Ampeg has, I find I prefer GK. So, if I prefer my base tone, would it be worth getting with a GK or does it really need those tubes to excel?
Good question - I need to get it into a band situation (hopefully this weekend) to give you a better and more informed opinion. My current thoughts are based upon Orange and Ampeg amps while practicing with my band, while GK is from noodling around at home. So a couple of big variables at play, volume and mix... I'm glad you asked, I'm new here and need to do a better job of giving perspective to go along with my opinions.
I just nabbed one of these myself. I’m still puttering around but so far I like it. Nice, hard sounding high mids with a useable amount of gain (ie not gobs of stupid gain far beyond what any real bass player would use).
