    Okay I need help.

I have an old early 70's Ampeg 8x10 cabinet. The jack on the back uses a very hard to find cable. the cable has a standard 1/4 plug on the one end and what looks like a female XLR plug on the other end but it has 4 pins in it.

What is this? Where can I get one? Can this cabinet be retro fitted with a female phone jack?

I think Ampeg makes one. They have all sorts of speakon and 1/4" and XLR combinations with any length or angle you want. You could get a right angle 1/4" to a speakon cable with a length of 6" if you wanted to. Check www.ampeg.com

I get the impression that AMPEG supports new customers and new$$$$$$$.
They don't carry this type of cable according to their dealers. I've sent a large number of emails to ampeg at various address and 2 letters by snail mail and I haven't heard one reply yet.

I'll keep looking and thanks for your input!

Lumpycat, you might be better served if this thread is moved up to Amps.

Lotsa old Ampeg tube guys up there, I'm sure at least one of them know the connector that you are talking about.
  5. Who knows how this got to effects......up to amps you go!
  6. See if these guys have what you need. I think they do. Of course you can always change it to a 1/4 inch plug if you want.

did you try radio shack or local etronics/hardware stores? I know the connector type your talking about, my old ampeg 1x15 had it. I found a replacement part at radio shack.

Yeah, you can either make your own cable or just install a 1/4" input jack on the cab. I'd just install a 1/4 jack. Much easier.

FYI - the cable was used so that it's impossible to run the head without a load (and blow it!). The plug has four pins, and when you plug it in, two of them short out, completing a circuit inside the head. Old B-15's have them too.
You can see the SVT poweramp schematic here:
