OLP MM, Recs for Improving Sound?

  1. I just got an OLP MM style 5 string with a Moses carbon neck. It needs the guts cleaned up, but I'd like to know what people are using to bring the tone of such an animal up a notch? Its tone is a little soft, and I'd like a strong, clean but hefty presence from it.
For amps I've got a Peavey T-Max combo, a Trace SMX pre with a QSC RMX850 power amp, and a couple cabs: a DIY 210 with Eminence made Avatar neos, and an old Acoustic 106 with EV-L 15s.
I sometimes use a SansAmp Bass Fly Rig, always use a Broughton High-Pass Filter.

So who's got some good dope on notching up an OLP MM? Thanks for your time!

I would wire both coils in parallel and install a preamp in it. Mojotone makes a clone of the original MM 2 band. This will add some gain and presence, the classic MM SR tone.
If you want to take it up yet another notch, get a replacement pickup. This is more of a rabbit hole, so I don't really have much to suggest. I'd try the preamp first, it makes a huge difference, the pickup swaps will fine tune your tonal goal.
